FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND THE GOOD OF THE CITY.
These are our beliefs
There is one eternal and personal God, a Spirit who is limitless in power, wisdom, holiness, and love. God exists in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—revealing Himself in this way while maintaining His unity in essence.
Jesus Christ, the second Person of the Godhead, is eternally united with God the Father, reflecting the Father’s essence and glory. To become fully human, He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, uniting two complete and perfect natures—divine and human—in one Person; truly God and truly man.
The Holy Spirit, as the third Person of the Trinity, is eternally one with the Father and the Son. Yet, He is sent by Them to fulfill God’s divine purpose in the world and the Church. We believe in the Holy Spirit’s power, as He was sent by God to carry on the work of salvation. He draws people to Jesus, equipping and empowering them to become more like Christ. We also believe in the manifestation of spiritual gifts in the lives of believers.
The Scriptures, comprising the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments, are the authoritative and infallible Word of God. Written by holy men, inspired by the Holy Spirit, they hold supreme authority in all matters of faith and practice.
People were made in the image of God and for fellowship with God. By transgression of God’s command humankind fell from fellowship with God and their nature was corrupted. As a consequence all people are spiritually dead under Satan’s dominion and control and subject to God’s wrath and condemnation. Therefore, apart from God’s grace, people are helpless and hopeless.
To redeem humanity from the guilt, penalty, and power of sin, Jesus Christ became human and died as a sacrificial substitute on our behalf. His resurrection affirmed God’s acceptance of His atoning death. This atonement is sufficient for all, but only effective for those who receive it. A sinner is justified and reconciled to God, not by personal merit, but solely by God’s gracious gift of salvation in Jesus Christ, received through faith.
The ministry of the Holy Spirit is essential for receiving God’s gift of salvation. The Holy Spirit convicts sinners of their sin, leads them to faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and brings them to spiritual rebirth as God’s children, uniting them in fellowship with Christ. Within the lives of believers, the Holy Spirit reveals Christ’s presence, affirms their relationship with God, guides them into all truth, grants gifts for effective service, and cultivates virtues for godly living.
The Church is the body of people whom God has separated from the world through faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. All regenerate persons are members of the universal Church of God which takes local form wherever groups of believers unite for worship, fellowship and service in accordance with scriptural principles. All believers are called to a priestly ministry in the offering of spiritual sacrifices and sent into the world to be witnesses. God calls individuals to positions of oversight and leadership or to special ministries. The Church recognises such by ordaining pastors, commissioning missionaries, appointing deacons and other leaders, following New Testament practice.
Baptism is an ordinance of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is a public declaration of a person’s faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. In accordance with New Testament Scripture it should be administered only by total immersion which symbolises the believer’s identification with Christ in death, burial and resurrection, the remission of sins and the believer’s dedication of themself to God to live and walk in newness of life.
The Lord’s Supper is an ordinance established by Jesus Christ, to be observed by believers using bread and wine until His return. It commemorates and gives thanks for Christ’s sacrificial death. Through this ordinance, we express our fellowship with the Lord Jesus Christ and with one another as members of His Body, with Him as the Head.
At the end of this age, according to His promise, Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly in His glory to the earth. The full consummation of the Kingdom of God awaits His return.
At the end of the age, there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous. While the bodies of the deceased return to dust, their spirits return to God—the righteous to be with Him, and the unrighteous to await judgment.
God has appointed a day of final judgment for the world, when Jesus Christ will judge every person. Each will receive either reward or punishment based on their deeds. The righteous, in their resurrected and glorified bodies, will receive their reward and dwell forever in Heaven with the Lord. The unrighteous will be cast into Hell, the place of eternal punishment.
